c0mpiled-8: Cornell

Overview

This was our longest hckathon yet! c0mpiled x Cornell: AI Unleashed brought 120+ builders together for 36 hours of building in NYC! Teams tackled 5 challenge tracks: Programmable Capital, AI Alignment at Scale, Hospitality, Healthcare AI, and Retraining Workers for the AI Economy.

Reflections

• Good: Extended length (36 hours vs our usual 5) had some definite benefits! Participants had time to pivot and find what they truly wanted to work on. And our founders were able to engage more deeply with them.
• Good: The venue was super ideal. Multiple judging rooms worked great. And groups were given set locations to be at while building, which let founders be more intentional about which teams they talked to.
• Good: The Cornell team put together a fun little pitch workshop for participants, which made for some really solid final pitches! Overall, the quality of ideas and builds were very high too.
• Good: Schedule-wise, the event proceeded super smoothly — shoutout to the Cornell team for keeping everyone on track.
• Observation: Teams that presented strong initial concepts tended to attract more mentor interest, which increased their chances of winning.
• Observation: For the first time, we asked teams to submit their webapps using Portal — a sandbox that lets developers easily set up demos. This enabled judges to play around with submissions and understand products better. Super useful, shoutout Zach!
