c0mpiled-13: Startup School Hackathon II

Overview

  • Over 360 registrations on Luma, 70+ participants, 25 incredible submissions, and 6 prizes awarded.
  • This second hackathon was added to accommodate the overwhelming demand from day 1!
  • Hosted at Transpose Platform in San Francisco on Saturday, July 25, during YC Startup School weekend.
  • Participants flew from all around the world for YC SUS and showed up ready to hack!
  • Builders chose from YC RFS spanning company brains, AI-native services, SaaS challengers, consumer products, software for agents, agriculture, and other emerging categories.
  • Hexclave appeared in 14 projects, CrustData in 7, and Channel3 in 4.
  • Six teams reported that they had already found or were onboarding a potential paying customer!

Reflections

Good

  • The second night also produced 25 unique projects, despite taking place immediately after a full day of Startup School!!
  • The strongest teams built complete workflows around a sharply defined user problem: storefront optimization, agent security, interior design, API maintenance, compliance, logistics, and more.
  • Sponsor-tool adoption was high, especially for Hexclave, CrustData, and Channel3, and several projects combined multiple partner APIs into one product.
  • Six teams reported finding or beginning to onboard a potential paying customer, showing that some participants validated demand during the same evening they built the prototype.
  • Everything went smoothly, as we posted much more clear instructions for optional demos and submissions.
  • We accidentally double ordered pizza, but you guys came through and finished over 30 boxes of pizzas!

Bad

  • Some teams arrived late due to SUS, but thats the nature of this weekend.

1st Place: Plop — Plop turns a photo of a room into interior-design concepts built from real, purchasable furniture through Channel3 rather than AI-imagined objects. Users can swap individual items for live-priced alternatives or set a budget and let the system optimize the furniture selection.

2nd Place: Team Cambrian — Cambrian uses genetic algorithms and reinforcement learning to generate many storefront variants and continuously select the designs most likely to convert.

3rd Place: Airlock — Airlock is a transparent MCP security proxy for AI agents. It blocks destructive shell commands, cross-agent workspace access, and secret exfiltration before connected tools execute.

Most Venture Backable: Team Cambrian — Cambrian uses genetic algorithms and reinforcement learning to generate many storefront variants and continuously select the designs most likely to convert. Big time congratulations to Cambrian for winning two prizes!

Most Beautiful: Get Your Ex Back — Get Your Ex Back replaces generic PDFs and long coaching waitlists with a structured program: an assessment of the user's real chances, a five-phase protocol, daily check-ins, and a weekly call with a coach who already knows the full story.

Hexclave Award($1,000): Swiper No Swiping — Swiper No Swiping is a consumer-protection shopping layer that intentionally adds friction before impulsive purchases, making buying harder when that friction can protect the user.

  • Description: FieldLoop analyzes satellite imagery for a selected field, computes vegetation and soil indicators, and uses a schema-constrained Claude workflow to diagnose stress zones as biological, water-related, or nitrogen-related. It then creates a targeted treatment raster and drone route for only the biological zones, reducing sprayed area to roughly 9% of the field in the demo.
